Unless you have a life-threatening disease, you shouldn’t be on antibiotics anyway! Antibiotics hinder our natural healing processes. What you need to do is eat right, exercise and get enough restful sleep. It does a body good! – Coz the body will then heal itself of any and all diseases including acne!

Has anyone tried taking Vitamin A for acne?
Question by yankeegirl011: Has anyone tried taking Vitamin A for acne?
I’m taking about 50,000IU a day. Half of the A I’m taking is beta carotene, which is supposed to be safer than just taking regular vitamin A. The other half is plain old vitamin A. I know too much is toxic for you but I’ve read an article by a doctor and he said you can safely take up to 100,000IU a day. Dermatologists have told me my acne is not severe enough to use Accutane and I’ve tried Proactiv and antibiotics which have done nothing for me. I’ve been doing this vitamin A regimen for a little over 2 weeks, with a tiny bit of improvement. Maybe I should up the dosage? Any feedback on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

I had a friend with acne who was told by a derm that her situation wasn’t “severe” enough for Accutane. She got another opinion and found a derm who put her on Accutane, and it worked like a charm. If I recall correctly, she didn’t take the Accutane that long because her condition was not very bad, so she wasn’t even on the medication that long and she said it worked great.
If you are concerned about your acne, find a dermatologist who would be willing to put you on Accutane. It’s a great drug for acne and can prevent scarring problems down the road. For milder cases, you may just not need to use it for as long a time.
Your dosages of A sound awfully high. I’d stick with clinically proven methods like Accutane and the like before going with over-the-counter stuff that hasn’t been shown in clinical trials to work.

I have red inflamed pimples on both cheeks and small pimples under my skin on my chin area which have not gone away in months.
Do you think it’s a good idea to go on antibiotics for it?
And if yes, which ones?

No. antibiotics are bad for you to take if you don’t NEED them. Your body can become immune to antibiotics, and when you’re older or something happens, and you NEED antibiotics to help you, they might not work as well.
The only thing that really works to “cure” acne is accutane – the pill that only a doctor can prescribe that drastically dries out your skin and shrinks every pore on your body. But my parents never let me go on it when I was younger because it causes depression and can have some other bad side effects so eventually I was just trying my own things to get rid of acne. This included: persagel10 by clean and clear which has 10% benzoyl peroxide and is perfect for on the spot treatment. I also did honey masks a few times a week which smoothed out my skin so much. Just take pure honey and rub it on your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes before washing it off. Honey has some sort of healing properties in it that do amazing things to your skin. You’ll see. There’s also a pill called “Purim” that is a blood purifier known to clear up acne internally. Also moisturize a lot! All I used to do was use drying products for my acne and it never got better. Me taking away all the moisture from my face only forced my skin to produce more oil and break out more. Once I started moisturizing every morning and night, I cannot tell you how much better my skin looked. I still break out once in a while here and there, but without ever going on accutane and compared to what my face looked like before, I’d say my skin looks pretty good now. I hope I helped! Good luck!

God knows there is really nothing pretty about acne breakouts. Those little bumps on your skin can really put a damper on an otherwise happy life of a teenager. And if it breaks out well into adulthood, it could mean the end of dating. So what do you do? The answer can be found in three words: find a cure.
There are actually several known complementary remedies for managing this skin disease. These include:
* Maintaining proper hygiene
* Changing diet (from an acidic diet to a more alkaline one)
* Taking vitamin supplements
* Applying anti-acne medicines
For people who have a really bad case of acne, it would be tempting to jump right away to applying medicines. While there is nothing wrong with using medicines for extreme acne cases, you should remember that hormones and toxicity are the ones at work here. Doctors of traditional allopathic medicine will tell you that acne is basically the result of too much sebum (caused by raging hormones) interacting with dead skin cells and bacteria. Chinese medicine, however, attributes it to heat and toxicity in the blood due to poor digestion, and the skin has become an excretory organ because of a digestive problem.
Both types of medicine may well be right about acne and its cause. So really, the best way to keep this skin condition at bay is by keeping the four complementary remedies of proper hygiene, healthy diet, supplements and medicine as part of your routine. Clean your face regularly, eat more vegetables and fruits, take vitamin supplements, and apply anti-acne medicine only as needed.
Vitamin supplements for acne act to decrease the inflammation and infection on the skin. You should take vital nutrient supplements especially if you do not eat fruits and vegetables so much. Remember to buy your supplements for acne from health food stores or vitamin websites rather than from supermarket. In most cases, the quality of vitamin supplements found in health food shops and health websites is better than the ones found at the supermarket. Keep in mind that foods will always be the best sources of absorb able nutrients, so never replace a healthy, balanced diet with vitamin supplements.

Has anyone had any luck with this? I have acne on my back and benzoyle peroxide just makes it itchy and I can’t take it anymore. But I am worried about taking antibiotics every day. Will this weaken my immune system and make me get yeast infections? That would be gross

Taking birth control and antibiotics for acne?
Question by Rudy: Taking birth control and antibiotics for acne?
I have pretty bad acne and I took minocylcine for about 6 months which completely cleared up my skin. i had to get off of it thought becuase i needed to be put on birth control once i became sexually active. My acne has come back even worse now. I switched to tri-nessa and it has done nothing at all, it’s been 3 months already. I really need to get back on some acne antibiotics but i don’t know if it will decrease the effectiveness of my birth control. What should I do?

Answer by Monkeeshrines
Most antibiotics do reduce or negate the effects of hormone type birth control (such as the Pill). Try an alternate form of contraceptive if you plan on returning to the acne meds.

How can I prevent acne while taking prednisone?
Question by Tractor: How can I prevent acne while taking prednisone?
I am starting an 8 week dosage of prednisone and I want to know how to prevent myself from getting acne while I’m taking that medicine. I know that acne is one of the side effects from that drug. I took it once before and I got a bad case of acne that was really painful. Thanks in advance.

Answer by clueloopy_38
I also suffered from acne while taking prednisone. I am still currently taking prednisone, but my acne has recently cleared up. I’m blemish free & can’t figure out what I’m doing differently.
An antibiotic like tetracycline would probably help with your acne & does not interact with prednisone. I’d ask your doctor about this before beginning a regimen.
Good luck!
